Terraria is a 2D sandbox game developed by Re-Logic and released by Re-Logic and 505 Games in 2011. It is initially played on PC but is soon available on multiple platforms. It has a tile-based graphic style, which may remind you of the good old days. This game has always been popular for a reason. From my perspective, it is a manifestation of real life: you are born with no one telling you what to do, and you need to figure it out along the way. But this game is definitely more ideal than real life because your exploration doesn’t cost you a penny in that world, and you can actually exploit resources and build new constructions as you wish.

Games usually have specific goals, rules, levels and settings. However, sandbox games are by no means like that. In Terraria, after creating your beloved character and giving a name to the world the character will live in, you will see a randomly created world in which you can do anything or nothing at all. In this sense, Terraria is not very friendly for beginners, who may feel confused and overwhelmed by this freedom. I would suggest that beginners watch at least one tutorial on Youtube or navigate the official website of Terraria to get to know it.

But once you get familiar with this game, you may become addicted to it. I am not exaggerating. It could be almost impossible for you to be bored because there are so many things to do. You can exploit resources such as wood, copper, and tin ore. You can use these resources to craft new items based on the crafting recipe of each new item. But this world is not 100% safe, so you will have enemies, such as zombies. In Expert Mode, there are tougher bosses. You need to keep in mind that the character is not immortal; the cost of each death is different across modes, but you will lose at least some resources. So, if you are strategic, you can benefit from the accumulating advantage of living longer. This game is very worth exploring, but it is good to do some research if you are new to it.
