ACECRAFT is a pleasant surprise that brings traditional bullet hell at the speed of 1930s rubber hose. Based in the floating archipelago of Cloudia, you’ll play as an Ace Pilot travelling through psychedelic bullet storms and bouncing pink projectiles back to their shooters in order to fend off the Nightmare Legion. This “absorb-and-counter” mechanic is the game’s masterstroke: remove your finger and defense transforms into offense, while balanced flow becomes a rhythmic push-and-pull that feels part dodging puzzle, part aerial judo. Every ten-wave set culminates in a boss battle you could imagine being storyboarded by Max Fleischer; one of my favorites is fighting against a gigantic clock that shoots out circular patterns so thick they seem like time unraveling.

Between runs, a gear system (of the gacha school) offers permanent upgrades; in-counterpoint, rogue like attachments stack up mid-run — the homing fireworks, spread cannons or napalm spitfires of which can combine into absurd screen-filling salvos. The result is a dynamic power fantasy that thrives on improvisation, rather than roteness. A two-player co-op survival mode doubles the mayhem and the loot, promoting synergistic builds and frantic on-the-go communication.

Aesthetic-wise, the Cuphead-ish watercolor skies and bouncy jazz soundtrack sell a childlike wonder that belies the razor-sharp difficulty swirling beneath. But the somewhat generous daily tickets, pity-based summons, and fair gear progression ensure that monetization never crosses into the predatory category. And the occasional frame drop during all that firework-set finale is as bumpy of a ride as it gets.

ACECRAFT is an unusual mobile shooter that respects your reflexes but also your time, allowing for five-minute-bursts of dopamine or hours long co-op marathons without once delving into grind-for-grind’s-sake tedium. Buckle in, prime your counter stunt and let the clouds burn, this is as close to piloting a Saturday-morning cartoon without a time machine.
