It's one of few refreshingly unique mobile strategy-collector hybrids I've skirmished with in a while. The loop of spinning the pinball style plinko machine for coins and candies, which you then use to trigger critter-capture mini-games so that you can evolve your "Tatari" as a defence mechanism back in base is criminally addictive. It never becomes a mindless clicker because aiming the pinball and timing the critter-catch actually take some skill and focus.
Creature designs are a showcase highlight. Each critter possesses a unique personality plus elemental type (fire/water/nature/etc.) and an evolution chain that is typically made up of three stages. The base building and decoration elements are fun, too—coming back to the camp every so often—which happens with each new floor open—to check on your pets and rearranging their homes provides a comfy stress-free break from sometimes brutish wave driven zombie defense or PvP raid modes. As a F2P player I personally liked the fact that battles rewarded thoughtful formation and synergy over brute forcing with high-rarity units.
In terms of performance, I am running a mid range phone and the game runs quite smoothly so far, it has nice colourful clean 2D art and no bugs that I have found yet. The energy system works well for casual sessions too although I wish the upgrade timers didn't pull so insistently in the later game. My main complaints would be that the Coin Master-style raid mechanic can get fairly old after a long session and some of those interstitial ads (if you are not on the ad-free/BP train) break up play. Finally, it would also be helpful for newer players if advanced critter combos and attribute counters were more clearly explained.
In the end, features like casual collecting, light strategy and satisfying progression are well balanced in Clash of Critters. If you like your pet-collection games with a slightly tactical feel, it's definitely worth downloading. Excited to see potential new critters and events.
